Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Biodiversity Net Gain Specialist to join our Nature team across multiple UK locations with a flexible hybrid working model. You will lead BNG assessments for major infrastructure projects and mentor junior ecologists while collaborating with planning authorities and clients.

You will deliver high-quality biodiversity inputs, develop our BNG vision in UK&I, and lead bids and tenders.

Qualifications

• Degree in ecology or an associated subject; membership of a professional institution.
• Experience leading Biodiversity Net Gain assessments on large infrastructure projects.
• Excellent knowledge of legislation and policy relevant to biodiversity.
• Experience interpreting UKHabs data and Habitat Condition Assessments.
• Experience reviewing technical work, supporting team members, and bidding/tendering.

Responsibilities

• Deliver biodiversity net gain (BNG) assessments for infrastructure and development projects across the UK.
• Produce and review biodiversity assessments including BNG feasibility and design stage reports, NBB assessments, and BNG assessments.
• Collaborate with UK&I BNG leadership to develop the BNG Vision across the UK.
• Upskill ecologists across the business.
• Support consultation with clients and project stakeholders including planning authorities and the public.
• Contribute to developing technical capabilities and embedding innovation/research.
• Work with digital/data teams on biodiversity tools development.
• Lead the production of bids and tenders for ecological/BNG services.
• Mentor and support junior staff and peers.
