Overview of role

Position Location: Glasgow, UK / Liverpool, UK / Cambridge, UK / Altrincham, UK / Norwich, UK

We are seeking someone who enjoys working in a close-knit, but large, team and is a trusted specialist due to their technical knowledge. You will be passionate about using your experience and knowledge for professional excellence, working with the team in the development of solutions both in-team and for our wide range of clients. You would contribute to the growth of our people, our environment business across our ecology practice which comprises 130 ecologists. You will enjoy rising to a challenge, finding ways to add value for our customers, using and promoting innovative technology and above all, ensuring quality is maintained. Most importantly, you will be helping us to build a lasting and sustainable environmental business.

Whether on site or in the office, you will work as part of our team, collaborating with ecologists at all levels of experience and with our environmental and engineering colleagues, which will help you further understand our consultancy and construction business.

This opportunity is also a space for your development. You will be visible within our business, working with other ecology team leads across the UK, providing opportunities to grow your reputation and influence peers both internally and sector-wide.

We would like to discuss your desired role within Mott MacDonald and define responsibilities based on your goals and aspirations. We have many varied and interesting roles that will appeal to most ecologists. Depending on your location, you will report to a regional and area lead who coordinates with teams across the UK.

Candidate specification

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • An ecologist with strong UK experience
  • A degree in Ecology or a related subject (a higher degree is an advantage)
  • Associate member of CIEEM
  • Knowledge of wildlife legislation, planning processes, and/or EIA/HRA assessments and surveys
  • Understanding and experience applying relevant guidance for surveys
  • Report writing skills, attention to detail, ability to produce accurate and concise reports, including EcIAs and HRAs
  • Experience in conducting various ecology reports, including EcIAs and HRAs
  • Field survey experience: Phase 1 habitat, UK Habitat assessment, BNG condition, protected species surveys
  • Attention to detail and ability to deliver work on time and within budget
  • Good communication skills, including report writing
  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK
