Job Title: Electrical Technician

Location: Coventry

Salary: £30,805 - £34,132

Hours: Full Time, Permanent

My client is seeking an experienced and skilled Electrical Technician to provide a business-critical response service across their estate. The role involves executing routine, planned, and reactive maintenance duties; carrying out diagnostics and repairs to a variety of electrical and mechanical systems; and performing minor installations for all electrical building services. The technician will ensure all statutory, planned, and reactive work is delivered safely, cost-effectively, and to agreed KPIs and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Key Responsibilities
  1. Technical Duties
  • Respond to job requests via the notification system, ensuring each is resolved safely, efficiently, and to a high standard within SLA targets.
  • Handle emergency situations involving power supplies, emergency lighting systems, general and controlled lighting systems, alarm systems, motors, BMS controls, portable appliances.
  • Provide planned maintenance and carry out reactive remedial work, ensuring compliance with statutory testing including periodic inspection, emergency lighting, fire alarm, portable appliance testing, and defect repairs.
  • Diagnose faults, assess job feasibility, and liaise with the Electrical Supervisor when necessary.
  • Investigate unidentified problems, determine if specialist input is required.
  • Contribute advice on new installations, assist in project planning, and participate in new works and refurbishment projects.
  • Lead small-scale installations for power systems within the Electrical Services team.
  • Health & Safety and Compliance
  1. Assess risks and develop/adhere to risk assessments and method statements.
  2. Participate in hazard identification and risk assessment processes.
  3. Ensure all compliance-related tasks are executed and accurately recorded.
  4. Interpret and work with record drawings, including asbestos and fire safety systems.
Organisational Responsibilities
  1. Prioritise tasks by urgency, location, and potential impact on facility usage.
  2. Arrange access when necessary, including coordination with security.
  3. Maintain thorough documentation including resolutions, timesheets, and service records.
  4. Use internal systems to calculate and request materials for each job.
Financial Duties
  1. Provide cost estimates for minor works and contracted services.
  2. Manage small works projects, ensuring budget, compliance, and performance requirements are met.
  3. Advise budget holders on product specifications and costs for tools, equipment, and consumables.
Communication and Customer Service
  1. Liaise proactively with Electrical Supervisors, colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders to minimise disruption.
  2. Offer expert technical advice to ensure safe and effective service delivery.
  3. Communicate clearly and professionally with a diverse customer base.
General
  1. Operate company vehicles to transport staff, tools, and materials.
  2. Ensure all work areas are clean and high quality upon completion.
  3. Undertake any other duties reasonably required, aligned with the role level.
Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent experience in electrical building services.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installations or Maintenance; City & Guilds 236 Part 1 & 2, 2330 (Levels 2 & 3), 18th Edition (BS7671), and 2395 (Inspection & Testing).
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent with strong health & safety knowledge.
  • Proven ability in installation, maintenance, and electrical testing per BS7671 and the Electricity at Work Act.
  • Strong understanding of statutory compliance in electrical services.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage workload independently.
  • Experience handling high volumes of reactive maintenance requests.
  • Problem-solving skills with fault finding and escalation initiative.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Competent in record-keeping with written and IT skills.
  • Familiarity with planned preventative maintenance systems.
  • Full, clean UK or EU driving licence.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of fire alarm systems (BS 5839).
  • Experience as LV/HV Authorised Person.
  • Competence in confined space entry with escape breathing apparatus.
  • Safe use of lifting platforms, tower scaffolding, asbestos safety awareness.
  • Understanding of mechanical building systems.
