Job Opportunity: Electrical Services Engineer

The opportunity

Our client, a global leader in engineering and defence solutions, is seeking a skilled Electrical Services Engineer due to ongoing expansion and a pipeline of major infrastructure projects. This role offers the chance to work in a dynamic environment where your work impacts national defence assets. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team within the Major Infrastructure Projects Business Unit, delivering complex design packages.

This position provides exposure to challenging projects, career development opportunities, and collaboration with industry experts in a culture that values innovation and integrity. The role is inside IR35 for 12 months+ and is based in Plymouth or Bristol, with 2 days remote work and 3 days in the office weekly.

Your duties and responsibilities
  • Support the Discipline Lead in delivering electrical work packages within scope, schedule, quality, and budget.
  • Manage technical deliverables related to Electrical Services, ensuring alignment with project plans.
  • Collaborate with design teams and stakeholders within the Major Infrastructure Projects Business Unit.
  • Provide technical guidance to sub-contracted design houses for compliant and robust outputs.
  • Apply engineering design, safety principles, and best practices relevant to the project.
  • Contribute to project planning, specifications, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures on design governance, quality, and safety standards.
  • Utilize engineering software for documentation and analysis.
  • Support design during construction, refit, repair, or operation of conventional and nuclear submarines (desirable).
  • Design electrical building services, including fire detection, industrial and emergency lighting, broadcast and PA systems, HVAC integration and controls.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree or HND in electrical engineering (preferred).
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards registration with the Engineering Council.
  • Experience managing complex design projects throughout their lifecycle.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical building services and design support.
  • Proficiency with relevant engineering software and tools.
  • Understanding of standards, regulations, and safety requirements in high-assurance sectors.
