Job summary

Kingston Barnes Ltd. is seeking an experienced EC&I Technician to join a well‑established industrial processing and energy generation facility in Tilbury.

The role focuses on planned and reactive maintenance across instrumentation, control and electrical systems to keep plant equipment safe, efficient and reliable. You will work with DCS/SCADA and CMMS tools, support continuous improvement projects, and participate in an on‑call rota to respond to breakdowns when required.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship, ONC or equivalent.
• Experience with high‑reliability EC&I maintenance in heavy industrial plants.
• Strong fault finding and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience with CMMS systems.

Responsibilities

Monday Friday Days (40 Hours) + 1 in 4 Callout Rota

Kingston Barnes is recruiting for an EC&I Technician to join a well-established industrial processing and energy generation facility in Exeter.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Technician to work within a highly automated process environment, supporting the reliability, performance and continuous improvement of critical plant equipment. The Role

As an EC&I Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across instrumentation, control and electrical systems, ensuring plant equipment operates safely, efficiently and reliably.

Key responsibilities include:

• Planned and reactive maintenance of instrumentation and control systems.
• Fault finding, diagnosis and repair of plant equipment and control systems.
• Managing calibration activities and maintaining accurate calibration records.
• Working with instrument loop drawings, schematics and P&IDs.
• Conducting plant inspections and supporting site safety initiatives.
• Maintaining accurate records through the CMMS system.
• Supporting contractor supervision and coordination on site.
• Assisting with monitoring and reporting on critical plant assets.
• Carrying out risk assessments and ensuring safe systems of work are followed.
• Working closely with operations and maintenance teams to maximise plant performance.
• Supporting continuous improvement projects focused on reliability, safety and environmental performance.
• Participating in the on-call rota and responding to breakdowns when required.

The Candidate

We are looking for an experienced EC&I professional with a background in heavy industrial, process manufacturing, power generation, energy recovery, chemical, utilities or similar environments.

You should have:

• Experience within a Control & Instrumentation or EC&I maintenance role.
• Experience working with DCS and/or SCADA systems.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience using CMMS systems.
• A recognised engineering qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship, ONC, HNC or equivalent.
• A strong understanding of health, safety and environmental standards within an industrial environment.
• The ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively.

Desirable experience includes:

• Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
• Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work procedures.
• COMPEX 1-4 certification.
• Health & Safety qualifications.
• Contractor management and coordination experience.
• Strong IT skills including CMMS, Outlook, Word and Excel.
