Job summary

Kingston Barnes Ltd. is recruiting an EC&I Technician for an Exeter-based industrial facility.

You will perform planned and reactive maintenance on instrumentation and control systems, diagnose faults, calibrate equipment, and work from loop drawings and P&IDs to keep critical plant assets reliable. The role offers an £49,129 basic salary with an overall package around £50,000–£51,000 plus standby allowance, plus an annual bonus scheme and excellent benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Control & Instrumentation or EC&I maintenance role.
• Experience with DCS and/or SCADA systems.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience using CMMS systems.
• Engineering qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship, ONC, HNC or equivalent.
• Strong health, safety and environmental standards understanding.

Responsibilities

• Planned and reactive maintenance of instrumentation and control systems.

Kingston Barnes is recruiting for an EC&I Technician to join a well-established industrial processing and energy generation facility in Exeter.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Technician to work within a highly automated process environment, supporting the reliability, performance and continuous improvement of critical plant equipment. The Role

• Planned and reactive maintenance of instrumentation and control systems.
• Fault finding, diagnosis and repair of plant equipment and control systems.
• Managing calibration activities and maintaining accurate calibration records.
• Working with instrument loop drawings, schematics and P&IDs.
• Conducting plant inspections and supporting site safety initiatives.
• Maintaining accurate records through the CMMS system.
• Supporting contractor supervision and coordination on site.
• Assisting with monitoring and reporting on critical plant assets.
• Carrying out risk assessments and ensuring safe systems of work are followed.
• Working closely with operations and maintenance teams to maximise plant performance.
• Supporting continuous improvement projects focused on reliability, safety and environmental performance.
• Participating in the on-call rota and responding to breakdowns when required.

The Candidate

We are looking for an experienced EC&I professional with a background in heavy industrial, process manufacturing, power generation, energy recovery, chemical, utilities or similar environments.

You should have:

• Experience within a Control & Instrumentation or EC&I maintenance role.
• Experience working with DCS and/or SCADA systems.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience using CMMS systems.
• A recognised engineering qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship, ONC, HNC or equivalent.
• A strong understanding of health, safety and environmental standards within an industrial environment.
• The ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively.

Desirable experience includes:

• Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
• Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work procedures.
• COMPEX 1-4 certification.
• Health & Safety qualifications.
• Contractor management and coordination experience.
• Strong IT skills including CMMS, Outlook, Word and Excel.
