Job summary

W Talent is partnering with a rapidly growing organisation in the renewable energy sector to recruit an experienced EC&I Technician in Exeter. You will perform planned and reactive maintenance on instrumentation and control systems, troubleshoot faults, manage calibrations and support contractor coordination in a modern industrial environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Control & Instrumentation engineering within a process industry or similar environment.
  • Experience using CMMS software.
  • Experience with DCS and/or SCADA systems.
  • Relevant technical qualifications listed above (City & Guilds/NVQ, ONC/HNC, COMPEX).
  • Strong safety, health and environmental awareness in an industrial setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on instrumentation and control systems.
  • Diagnose faults and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage calibration programmes and maintain calibration records.
  • Work with instrument loop drawings, schematics and PIDs.
  • Conduct plant and safety inspections and risk assessments.
  • Coordinate contractors and external service providers on site.
  • Maintain CMMS records and report on critical assets.
  • Assist with continuous improvement to plant reliability and safety.
  • Provide support to stores when required.
  • Cover aspects of the C&I Engineer role to broaden knowledge.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician to join the team in Exeter.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced EC&I professional who enjoys troubleshooting complex systems, working collaboratively across multiple disciplines and contributing to continuous improvement within a modern industrial environment.

As an EC&I Technician, you will be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance activities across the site, ensuring plant equipment and control systems operate safely and efficiently.

You will also support other engineering disciplines when required and assist with contractor coordination to maintain a safe and productive working environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on instrumentation and control systems.
  • Diagnose faults and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Manage calibration programmes and maintain accurate calibration records.
  • Work confidently with instrument loop drawings, schematics and P&IDs.
  • Conduct plant and safety inspections.
  • Support the supervision and coordination of contractors on site.
  • Maintain accurate records within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Assist with monitoring and reporting on critical plant assets.
  • Carry out risk assessments and ensure Safe Systems of Work are followed at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with Operations and Maintenance teams to deliver performance targets.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance plant reliability, safety and environmental performance.
  • Provide occasional support to the stores function when required.
  • Cover aspects of the C&I Engineer role as required, helping to broaden technical experience and knowledge.
  • Respond to plant and equipment breakdowns during and, when required, outside normal working hours.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
  • Experience in Control & Instrumentation engineering within a process industry, power generation facility or similar industrial environment.
  • Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Experience working with DCS and/or SCADA systems.
  • Relevant technical qualification, such as City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Completion of a recognised engineering apprenticeship.
  • Strong understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental responsibilities within an industrial setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Strong analytical and fault-finding capabilities.
  • Effective problem-solving skills with a proactive approach.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively under time constraints.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
  • Experience with Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work.
  • ONC/HNC in an engineering or technical discipline.
  • COMPEX 1-4 certification.
  • Formal Health & Safety qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience coordinating contractors and external service providers.
  • Strong IT skills, including CMMS, Outlook, Word and Excel.
