Job Description:

Based in Blackburn

Shift work: 4 on 4 off days/nights, 12-hour shifts from 6am to 6pm and 6pm to 6am. The schedule includes no Saturday nights and shorter Saturday day shifts, providing more weekend time off.

Industry: FMCG food manufacturing

Duties

• Report to the Engineering Lead, collaborating with the Head of Engineering, Factory Manager, and Production Managers to minimize machinery downtime and conduct preventative maintenance.
• Lead a team of 2 multi-skilled engineers and an apprentice, ensuring safe working conditions.
• Attend to breakdowns promptly following escalation procedures.
• Manage shift cover, holidays, overtime, and return-to-work documentation.
• Perform and record PPMs, repairs, and analyze recurrent faults.
• Coordinate with the engineering team to supply parts and reduce downtime.
• Monitor KPIs such as OEE, MTTR, and MTBF.
• Adhere to health, safety, and environmental policies, and champion H&S and building maintenance initiatives.
• Mentor and coach team members, contributing to continuous process improvements.

Requirements

• Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge, preferably with experience on food processing machinery.
• Process control expertise.
• Continuous professional development.
• Competence in building electrical control systems, with relevant qualifications (e.g., BTEC ONC, HNC, HND in Electrical Engineering).
• IEE 17th edition wiring regulations (preferred).
• Proven engineering and fault-finding experience in an FMCG or food manufacturing environment.
• Understanding of HACCP, COSHH, and GMP principles.
• Excellent communication, assertiveness, decision-making skills, and a positive attitude.
• Experience with Root Cause Analysis and implementing countermeasures.
• Multi-skilled in electrical and mechanical engineering.
• Knowledge of CMMS systems (Shires preferred).
• Ability to implement preventative maintenance strategies.
• Innovative, solution-oriented mindset with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
• Experience with internal H&S audits and processes.
