Working Hours

35 hours per week, 9:30am to 5:30pm but additional hours may be required. We are happy to consider agile and flexible working patterns. Department Description

We represent some of the biggest, most active global banks, financial institutions and corporates by finding solutions to their regulatory enforcement issues, class actions, and other major litigation risks, which further our clients' strategic goals.

Representative Experience

  • Representing the London Metals Exchange in proceedings brought by hedge fund investors relating to the temporary closure of the nickel market in March 2022,

  • Representing a syndicate of 13 banks defending proceedings brought by the borrower in relation to a £650 million facility,

  • Defending a European bank in the New York courts against a class action alleging that London Gold Fixing members conspired to violate antitrust laws,

  • Representing European subsidiaries of a major bank in "clawback" cases relating to Bernard Madoff Investment Securities,

  • Defending major international banks in cases in the United States, UK, and the Netherlands involving alleged manipulation of various “-IBORs” and other benchmark rates,

  • Defending a major European bank in U.S. class action litigation involving SSA bonds,

  • Defending the wealth advisory business of a major bank in claims by high net worth individuals attacking the bank's investment strategy,

  • Advising a FinTech on a business critical dispute with a provider of regulated financial services, involving issues relating to legislative changes brought about by COVID-19,

  • Advising several UK banks on the litigation risks of the various emergency COVID-19 loan schemes guaranteed by the Government,

  • Acting for a Ukrainian coal mining and steel manufacturing group that was severely affected by the conflict in Eastern Ukraine in defending an arbitration claim being brought against it by one of its lenders for repayment of debt,

  • Acting for ENRC in respect of claims of misfeasance in public office against Dechert and the SFO.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Assist with document review and disclosure,

  • Assisting with project work for the firm,

  • Sight check and edit legal documents,

  • Liaise with internal and external counsel, within the UK and global,

  • Write concise memoranda to summarize research results,

  • Maintain document, transcript, and work product databases,

  • Assist with trial preparation,

  • Conduct legal research,

  • Organise and prepare chronologies, disclosure lists, exhibit lists and/or privilege logs,

  • Coordinate work with outside vendors, including adherence to strict deadlines,

  • Maintain confidentiality of client information.

Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

  • 12 months of paralegal experience in a law firm or equivalent,

  • At least 6 months litigation experience,

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience essential,

  • LPC qualification is preferred.

General Attributes

  • Strong written, editing and verbal communication skills,

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills,

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with or without direct supervision and coordinate multiple projects,

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to locate specific items on the internet,

  • Flexibility for additional hours as needed.
