Job summary
As a Trainee Cable Jointer, SSE plc offers a structured, hands-on training programme to join the underground electricity network. You will train at our site training school, progress through a skills-based ladder, and gain authorisations to work on the network while earning as you learn.
The programme runs 18–24 months with dedicated training, buddying with experienced teams, and a progression path from trainee to fully qualified Cable Jointer, including potential overtime and a company vehicle
Qualifications
- Customer-focused with the ability to build relationships.
- Hands-on with hand tools and cables.
- Willing to learn and adapt quickly in a team.
- Strong focus on Health & Safety.
- Able to travel to training centres and regional locations.
- Full UK driving licence.
Responsibilities
- Preparing cables and carrying out jointing and terminations
- Assisting on LV (415V-1000V) and HV (11kV-33kV) networks
- Supporting excavation, installation, and repair works and assisting with maintenance and refurbishment of substation equipment
- Working safely and promoting a strong safety-first culture
- Delivering excellent customer service during planned and emergency work
