Job summary

SMART Education Recruitment is seeking an Early Years Teaching Assistant to support Nursery and Reception children in a welcoming Newport primary school. The role involves play-based activities, collaboration with the class teacher and nurturing interactions throughout the school day.

You will help with language development, early literacy and numeracy while promoting independence and confidence. The position is for November 2026 start and offers a supportive assignment in a caring school

Qualifications

• At least 6 months' experience in an educational or Early Years setting.
• Understanding of early development and learning.
• Confident communication with children, families and staff.
• Able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Support Nursery and Reception children with learning and wellbeing.
• Deliver engaging, play-based activities.
• Work with individuals and small groups.
• Encourage language development and early literacy/numeracy.
• Foster confidence, independence and social skills.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment.
