Job summary

London Borough of Brent is inviting applications for a fixed-term SEND Practitioner to support children with SEND within Best Start Family Hubs and other locations. The role is part of a locality-based MDT and requires a Level 3 Early Years qualification, with evening/weekend commitments to meet family needs.

The post emphasizes early intervention, advice to practitioners and parents, and strong multi-agency collaboration to ensure excellent outcomes for children with SEND.

Qualifications

• A Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education or a related field (or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of SEND in the Early Years and experience working within an Early Years setting.
• Knowledge of SEND legislation, inclusion practices and the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
• Knowledge of child development and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
• Understanding of multi-disciplinary and partnership working.
• Experience as an Early Years SENCO and/or supporting children with SEND.
• Experience of working collaboratively with a range of agencies and professionals.
• Experience of developing positive partnerships with parents and carers from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience of providing advice, support and professional challenge in a strengths-based way.
• Strong organisational, planning and prioritisation skills, good ICT skills and record-keeping abilities.
• A commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Identify children with emerging SEND needs and enable timely access to interventions.
• Deliver universal and targeted support programmes for children and families.
• Promote inclusive practice across Family Hubs, early years settings and partners.
• Provide specialist advice and consultation to practitioners and parents.
• Contribute to multi-agency planning via Brent's Experts at Hand MDT clusters.
• Support the Graduated Approach: Assess, Plan, Do, Review.
• Facilitate positive transitions for SEND children into early years and school.
• Deliver training and parenting programmes to improve SEND outcomes.
• Champion the voice of the child and align with SEND Code of Practice.
• Promote early intervention and awareness of Family Hub and SEND support.
