Job summary

Brent Council is seeking an Early Years Inclusion Support Officer to strengthen SEND provision across Early Years settings in the borough. This role is part of the Brent SEND Outreach Service and involves working with SENCOs, practitioners, and families to improve outcomes for children with SEND.

The role emphasises early intervention, co-production, and systemic change, with travel across the borough to observe and advise in settings. A commitment to inclusive practice is essential.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in the Early Years sector supporting children with SEND across the four broad areas of need.
• Experience working effectively as, or alongside, a SENCO within an early years setting.
• Strong knowledge of child development, inclusion and equal opportunities.
• Experience delivering or supporting SEND interventions and strategies.

Responsibilities

Salary range: Salary range: £40,182 - £42,060 .a. inc. London weighting (pro-rata)

Contract: 36 Month Fixed Term- End date 31st March 2029

Hours of work: 36 hours - Term Time Working (39 weeks)

Location: Brent Civic Centre as well as other locations as required

The Role

In this exciting role you will work as part of the multi-disciplinary Brent Early Years Inclusion Support Team. You will support the development of high-quality Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision across Early Years settings throughout the borough.

The post-holder will have key support and advisory responsibilities within the Private, Voluntary and Independent (PVI) sector and will work alongside SENCOs to support high-quality implementation of the SEND Code of Practice through the graduated approach.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting the development of high-quality SEND provision across Early Years settings
• Advising and supporting SENCOs to implement the SEND Code of Practice through the graduated approach
• Working in partnership with practitioners, managers, parents and carers to improve outcomes for children with SEND
• Observing children within settings and advising on appropriate strategies, interventions and provision
• Supporting the implementation of Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycles
• Promoting inclusive practice and strong Ordinarily Available Provision
• Working collaboratively with colleagues across education, health and social care
• Contributing to service development and continuous improvement across the borough

The Person

Do you have clearly evidenced knowledge and experience of working in the Early Years sector with children with a range of SEND across the four broad areas of need? If you are passionate about providing and advising on high-quality SEND practice, strategies and interventions to support this group of children, then this could be the role for you.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has significant experience working within the Early Years sector supporting children with SEND across the four broad areas of need
• Has experience working effectively as, or alongside, a SENCO within an early years setting
• Demonstrates excellent child development knowledge and a strong commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities
• Has relevant training and experience in Early Years SEND interventions
• Has a sound understanding of Early Years and SEND legislation, alongside in-depth knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
• Is confident supporting the implementation of the SEND Code of Practice through the graduated approach and Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycles
• Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and can build positive relationships with parents, carers, practitioners and multi-agency professionals
• Has experience advising on SEND strategies, interventions and provision to improve outcomes for children
• Has experience delivering or supporting training related to SEND, or is confident developing this area of practice
• Is a reflective practitioner who can take initiative, make informed decisions and work collaboratively with settings to achieve the best possible outcomes
• Is organised, proactive and committed to high-quality inclusive practice

In this role you will travel across the borough, visiting early years settings and meeting with practitioners, SENCOs, managers and families. You will spend time observing children referred to the service and advising on the most appropriate support, strategies and interventions to meet their needs.
