Job summary

Southampton City Council is seeking a Best Start Inclusion Practitioner (Early Years) to work with children aged 0-5 and their families across Southampton. The role focuses on outreach, family support, and improving school readiness, with a emphasis on those at risk and facing barriers to access.

You will collaborate with health, education, and community partners to promote inclusion, provide guidance, and help families access childcare and Family Hub services.

Qualifications

• Proven experience working with children aged 0-5 and their families.
• Experience engaging families facing barriers to participation.
• Understanding of SEND and inclusive practice.

Responsibilities

• Identify and deliver targeted outreach and family support across Southampton.
• Support readiness and transition into early years provision and school.
• Provide home learning, early language interventions and parenting guidance.
• Build trusted relationships with children, parents and carers.
• Offer advice and practical support on child development and access to services.
• Assist families to access childcare and Family Hub offers.
• Collaborate with health professionals, schools and SEND services.
