Job summary

Leicester City Council is recruiting a Best Start in Life Inclusion Practitioner to support babies and children aged 0-5 and their families, across Leicester’s Family Hubs. You will provide specialist SEND guidance, assist early identification of needs, and deliver practical, family‑centred support in collaboration with health visitors, nurseries, schools and other professionals.

The 37-hour, full‑time role is a 3-year fixed term, with commitment to inclusion, wellbeing and ongoing professional

Qualifications

• Understanding of child development from birth to 5 years and ability to respond to emerging needs.
• Experience working with children and families in early years, SEND, education, health or family support services.
• Experience collaborating with education, health, community or family services.
• Knowledge of SEND systems, early years provision and family pathways.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist SEND advice and support within Family Hubs to help families access services.
• Support early identification of developmental needs through observation and discussion.
• Deliver practical, flexible support to 0–5s and families, modelling inclusive strategies.
• Collaborate with health visitors, nurseries, schools and therapists for coordinated support.
• Signpost families to local services and pathways and community resources.
• Coach staff to strengthen confidence in child development and early intervention.
• Support smooth transitions into early education and school, sharing information effectively.
• Contribute to Leicester's Best Start in Life SEND offer and responsive service design.
