Job summary

Grove Academy is seeking an EAL specialist to provide English language support to pupils, in class and in targeted small groups or one-to-one interventions, helping learners access the curriculum.

The role involves supporting new arrivals and their families, taking part in admissions assessments, planning lessons with teachers and developing suitable resources, and recording progress using the school's EAL framework.

Responsibilities

  • Provide English language support to EAL pupils in class and in targeted small groups or one-to-one interventions.
  • Support newly arrived pupils and families, aiding settlement and pastoral support.
  • Participate in admissions for new EAL pupils, including initial language assessments.
  • Plan lessons with teachers and develop resources for EAL learners.
  • Deliver targeted language support to develop speaking, listening, reading and writing across the curriculum.
  • Monitor and record pupils' progress using the EAL assessment framework.
  • Build positive relationships with parents, maintaining communication regarding progress and wellbeing.
  • Help colleagues understand linguistic, cultural and religious backgrounds of EAL pupils.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage confident engagement in all school life aspects.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure every pupil reaches their full potential.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide English language support to pupils for whom English is an Additional Language, both in class and through targeted small group or one-to-one interventions.
  • Support newly arrived pupils and their families, helping them to settle into school and providing appropriate pastoral support.
  • Participate in the admissions process for new EAL pupils, including carrying out initial language assessments and sharing information with staff.
  • Work closely with teachers to plan lessons and develop resources that meet the needs of EAL learners.
  • Deliver targeted language support to develop pupils' speaking, listening, reading and writing skills across the curriculum.
  • Monitor, assess and record pupils' progress using the school's EAL assessment framework.
  • Build positive relationships with parents and carers, maintaining effective communication regarding pupils' progress and wellbeing.
  • Support colleagues in developing their understanding of the linguistic, cultural and religious backgrounds of EAL pupils.
  • Promote positive behaviour, and encourage pupils to engage confidently in all aspects of school life.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure every pupil has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
