We are looking for a Youth Worker to join this innovative, brave, and creative team.
Youth Worker
Delivery based in Wakefield and Bradford Traveller sites/community centres. Office based across both locations and Leeds.
28 hours per week
Grade 3 SCP 8 £23,864-£24,829 (with a pay award pending of minimum 7% in May 2025)
12 months with the intention to extend (subject to funding)

You will be part of the youth service working on local council sites and community centres in Wakefield and Bradford. Your role involves building trusted relationships with young members (ages 5 to 17), engaging with families living on site, and outreach to young people living on yards, in houses, and potentially roadside. You will learn about their goals, talents, and challenges, and collaboratively develop ongoing activity programmes.
The youth work programme includes weekly group work and regular 1-1 sessions covering issues such as mental health, education, relationships, safety, human rights, and future aspirations. Sessions focus on developing confidence, leadership, teamwork, positive communication, and decision-making skills.
The service aims to reduce young people's isolation, improve their connections to opportunities, foster pride in their ethnicity, and develop partnerships with organizations that can offer off-site opportunities.
You should be confident working in a busy, community-facing environment that values person-centred approaches, active listening, and empathy. Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines are essential.
