Job Description

As part of our Utility Solutions capability, this is an opportunity for an experienced consultant to support our broad client base with multi-utility consultancy services, helping them effectively plan and execute construction projects. Working to a high level of accuracy, the role is focused on all aspects of Utility Consultancy, from understanding onsite constraints, procuring and planning diversionary works, to arranging for connections to new developments.

The role involves working on behalf of clients from various sectors on projects ranging from residential and commercial developments to major highways and infrastructure schemes. Tasks cover the entire project lifecycle, from feasibility and planning through to build and implementation.

The successful candidate will be a natural networker, working alongside our business development teams to grow and expand client relationships.

This full-time role will be based in our Bristol office, with flexible hybrid working offered.

Essential Criteria:
  • Thorough understanding of and experience in the utility industry, preferably in a B2B service delivery environment.
  • Experience in technical utility works, including loading calculations, network reinforcement, and design, with the ability to understand utility constraints' impact on schemes.
  • Experience in client-facing consultancy, managing communication with diverse stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the UK utility market and regulatory framework, including competition in connections.
  • Knowledge of processes for procuring utility works.
  • Experience in utility procurement and management roles or relevant background in a related industry.
  • Understanding or experience in engineering industry practices.
  • Knowledge of renewable technologies related to utility and developer connections.
  • Familiarity with legislation such as the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, HAUC, HSG47, etc.
  • Ability to deliver value through effective project management.
  • Experience in accurate report writing, conveying complex technical scenarios.
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications.
  • Full driving license.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS systems/drawing software.
  • CSCS card at site operative or visitor level.
  • Degree or professional qualification in engineering, project management, or similar.
Responsibilities:
  • Interpreting client utility requirements and scheme drawings.
  • Presenting schemes to utilities, procuring costs and designs.
  • Reviewing utility designs for risks and savings.
  • Challenging utility costs where appropriate.
  • Assessing client proposals' impact on existing utilities.
  • Calculating load requirements for various building types.
  • Evaluating utility assets and preparing feasibility assessments.
  • Managing multiple projects, ensuring responses from utilities meet milestones.
  • Writing detailed, accurate reports.
  • Attending client design meetings and coordinating utilities on-site.
  • Advising on procurement strategies for utility connections and diversionary works.
  • Coordinating utility works to align with client programs.
  • Assessing utility plans, undertaking feasibility studies, and identifying risks and costs.
  • Managing technical utility aspects between clients and utility companies.
  • Advising clients on risk minimization related to utilities.
  • Managing utility aspects of projects with varying values.
  • Attending design and progress meetings, sometimes on active sites.
  • Liaising with utility companies for easements and wayleave information.
  • Undertaking NRSWA 1991 C1-C9 processes.
