The Opportunity

We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Utility Consultant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in utility searches, procurement of new utility connections and utility diversions, site investigation, and utility drawings. The candidate should have between 2 and 5 years of relevant experience.

You will be involved at various stages of a project, from pre-acquisition land assessments for new build, regeneration, or infrastructure projects to understanding potential utility constraints and costs, through to concept and detailed design, utility procurement, and obtaining costs for utility connections and diversions.

Project work will be varied, with a strong focus on renewable energy, infrastructure, residential schemes, and other commercial developments, primarily within Wales and the Southwest, but also across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertaking utility searches to provide an initial risk assessment of existing utility infrastructure including electric, water, drainage, gas, telecoms, communication, tunnel, and pipeline companies and independent network operators.
  • Preparing utility maps and drawings indicating the type, location, and depth of services, including integrated drawings with other disciplines such as M&E, drainage, and landscape.
  • Managing projects, assisting with resource allocation, addressing client feedback, and ensuring effective communication.
  • Producing technical reports summarizing utility assets, presenting PAS 128 compliant utility records, budgeting, and strategizing for new utility connections and diversions.
  • Preparing Utility Statements for planning submissions.
  • Interpreting client utility requirements and scheme drawings.
  • Reviewing utility designs to identify risks and savings.
  • Evaluating utility assets and preparing feasibility assessments against client proposals.
  • Advising on procurement strategies for utility connections, diversions, and disconnections.
  • Assessing utility plans and conducting feasibility studies to identify risks and costs.
  • Liaising with utility companies regarding easements and wayleaves.
  • Undertaking NRSWA 1991 C1-C9 processes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Holding or working towards a degree or professional qualification in engineering, project management, or similar.
  • Experience in utility works, including network reinforcement, design, and understanding utility constraints on schemes.
  • Experience in client-facing consultancy and stakeholder communication.
  • Understanding of the UK utility market and regulatory framework.
  • Experience with report writing and knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS software.
  • Understanding of PAS 128 Level D and HSG47 compliance.
  • Full UK driving license and access to a personal vehicle.

We Offer

  • Hybrid working arrangements.
  • Membership of the Group Personal Pension Plan with up to 5% employer contribution.
  • Payment of relevant professional subscriptions.
  • 24 days annual leave.
  • Private healthcare scheme.
  • Critical illness and life assurance policies.
  • Mobile phone with inclusive plan.
  • Regular training programs.
  • Flexitime working schedule.
