Position: Transport Assistant
Location: Harestock
Line Reporting Manager: SST Divisional Manager
Hours: 07:00am - 17:00pm, 45-hour week (1 hour unpaid lunch)
Salary: £29,484 annually, £12.60 hourly rate
Principle Duties and Accountabilities
- Liaise with and assist other sections in the company in delivering operational and administrative services to internal and external customers
- Support Senior Transport Teams
Roles and Responsibilities
Logistics & Planning
- Assist line manager in delivering planned and reactive services to industrial, commercial, and domestic customers following established procedures
- Monitor and analyse data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for operational improvement
- Monitor daily vehicle revenue
- Manage planning of works in the line manager's absence
Customer Service
- Receive service requests verbally or electronically, advise customers, and coordinate resources to meet timescales and optimize performance
- Address and resolve complaints professionally and promptly
- Liaise with other departments to ensure smooth operational and administrative services
Data Processing & Administration
- Manage in-house systems and databases (Weighsoft, CTrack, Ortec, AAIR)
- Maintain office files
- Ensure accurate documentation of all jobs
- Manage drivers’ timesheets/hours in the absence of the manager
Health & Safety
Section 7 of the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) states employee duties:
- Take reasonable care for health and safety of themselves and others affected by their acts or omissions
- Cooperate with employer and others to enable statutory duties to be performed
Transport Assistant Responsibilities include:
- Understanding and complying with company health and safety policies
- Promoting a positive health and safety culture
- Carrying out activities safely and in accordance with legislation and risk assessments
- Maintaining cleanliness of work and welfare areas
- Completing all required documentation thoroughly
- Reporting incidents within 2 hours
- Being aware of fire, first aid, and emergency procedures
Qualifications / Competency
- Experience with fleet resources preferred
- Experience in transport, waste, or logistics industry desirable
- Ability to manage own workload
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Good communication skills, both oral and written
- Organizational and planning skills
- Ability to work independently
- Reliable, responsible, numerate, and commercially aware
- Receptive to training and new methods
- Ability to work under pressure
