Job Description:

We’re looking for positive, passionate people to help combat the criminal activities that plague the insurance industry. Our successes directly contribute to our customers' premiums, keeping AXA a market-leading insurance provider. Combating criminal activities in the insurance industry is done through our Counter Fraud department.

As a Motor Counter Fraud Investigator, you’ll manage investigations and provide expertise and guidance into more technically complex matters, in an ethical and professional manner. You’ll employ best practices and key investigative competencies to minimise the company’s exposure to fraud. Developing the technical expertise of fellow staff within the Fraud and non-fraud areas and enhancing current processes and counter fraud capabilities within the Group to strengthen our fraud control environment.

At AXA, we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team, and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home in the office, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients, or attending industry events.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Detect, defend, and deter motor claims fraud against the Group, including suppliers, customers, and third parties, acting individually or in concert as organised fraudsters.
  • Manage a portfolio of suspected fraudulent claims of all types and manage them until completion using investigation techniques to gather strong evidence and secure correct claims outcomes within authority and referral guidelines. Use validation techniques and tools to validate claims, and develop these skills further.
  • Actively seek out and share intelligence with industry contacts, undertake proactive enquiries based on data mining and analytics tools where available.
  • Assist police in criminal prosecutions by preparing statements and presenting evidence in court when required.
  • Help analyze repudiation/walkaway rates and fraud savings to identify trends and suggest improvements in rules, processes, and investigation opportunities.

What you’ll bring:
  • Knowledge of claims reserving and assessment methodology.
  • Expert knowledge of motor insurance principles, relevant legislation, case law, products, policies, and claims philosophy.
  • Understanding of arbitration, legal liability, and the legal environment, with appropriate tactics for customer and third-party claims.
  • End-to-end knowledge of claims process, including quantum assessment.
  • Experience interacting with key agencies such as IFIG, IFB, IFED, FOS, Police, ABI, FSA.
  • Aware of broker and corporate partner environments and their importance.
  • Knowledge of key fraud types affecting claims and specific workstreams.
  • Willingness to participate in relevant training and apprenticeship programs.
  • Excellent coaching, planning, and organizational skills with keen attention to detail.

Eligibility to work in the UK is a precondition.

This role involves background screening every 4 years under the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) regime, with an annual declaration in interim years.
