Job description

We are looking for a Statistician to join our Science team, a key position that will enable us to develop new capabilities for the Our Future Health research resource in the coming years. The successful candidate will focus on developing methods to address selection biases in participant recruitment and data collection. As part of the Science team, you will also provide statistical and scientific support across various cross-functional teams within Our Future Health.

Our Future Health aims to be the UK's largest health research programme, gathering data from 5 million volunteers across the UK to advance understanding and treatment of diseases, ultimately promoting longer, healthier lives.

What you'll be doing:

Collaborate with the Director of Science and Biostatistics, as well as cross-functional teams, to ensure the quality and utility of the research resource and data products. Your responsibilities include designing cohort and data collection strategies, understanding cohort diversity, and developing scientifically valuable data products and quality assessments.

  • Develop statistical weights to improve analysis representativeness
  • Work with Operations and Data teams to support non-response analysis
  • Conduct data analysis in collaboration with Science and Population Health Insights teams
  • Provide expertise in questionnaire and data collection development
  • Support the creation of data products and services to maximize scientific value
Requirements:
  • Experience with large, population-based surveys and methods for adjusting non-representativeness, such as statistical weights
  • PhD or MSc in statistics or related field in biomedicine
  • Strong understanding of statistical concepts and epidemiological methods
  • Experience analyzing large, complex health datasets
  • Proficiency in R or Python
  • Knowledge of study design considerations
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences
  • Experience presenting research findings externally
  • Interest in scientific data product development and working within agile teams
  • Pragmatic approach with good prioritization skills
