Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced, confident, and commerciallyminded professional who is adept at building relationships with seniorbusiness leaders to join the CBI team. You will join us at an excitingtime in our 60-year history as the CBI builds its membership tostrengthen the voice of business in Whitehall and to policymakers.
Based at our Cannon Street offices, within the CBI’s London,South East and Financial Services membership team, this is an excitingopportunity to join a team tasked with driving the ambitious growthplans of the business. It will be your job to help develop ourmembership base by managing external relationships with existing CBImembers and supporting the new income ambitions of the widerCommercial team.
As the primary focus of the role,you will have front-line responsibility for a portfolio of up to 35high-value strategic CBI member relationships, primarily locatedacross London, the Thames Valley, and the South East. You will alsoplay a leadership role in the Commercial team, responsible forsupporting more junior colleagues in performing their roleseffectively.
As Senior Associate Director, you willbe working with some of the most significant and influential FTSE andmultinational organisations within the CBI’s membership. This includescompanies drawn across the UK’s economy and will also provide theopportunity to develop deeper expertise in working with sectors suchas tech, manufacturing and retail. You will liaise daily with theCBI’s policy, campaigns, products, and events teams for up-to-dateproduct information; build external relationships with existingmembers; and support both the recruitment and onboarding of new CBImembers through collaboration with the CBI’s Sales team.
Responsibilities
Managing CBI member relationships
· Maintaining and deepening relationships with some ofthe largest, most complex and strategically significant CBI members inthe London, Thames Valley and South East regions, ensuring they arekept informed of regional and national opportunities to shape CBI andgovernment policy and participate in CBI activities. As SeniorAssociate Director, you will be directly responsible for a portfolioof up to 35 members, valued in excess of £1.5M.
· Drivingincreased membership retention and satisfaction by delivering acompelling and efficient membership offer based on policy, networkingand intelligence.
· Developing a deep understanding ofthose issues impacting the competitiveness of member companies andbeing able to articulate how the CBI can influence these policies tothe benefit of our members
· Increasing the value of themembership portfolio with a strong focus on the delivery ofhigh-quality account management, ongoing renewals of membership anduplifting membership values.
· Maintaining accuraterecords by tracking activity on the CRM system and ensuring relevantinformation is shared with the appropriate stakeholders.
Providing Leadership and Guidance within the London and SE Team
· Supporting the success of more junior colleagues in theCommercial team by providing practical guidance and support,demonstrating and embedding best practice
· Identifyingareas for performance improvement and professional development
· Deputising for the Regional Director for London andSouth East as required.
Supporting new sales, sponsorship andproducts and services to members
· Contributing to theLondon & South team’s overall recruitment targets by supporting thesales activities of the wider Commercial team.
· Assisting the sales process, drawing on member insight to both helpidentify potential targets and leading on these relationships whereappropriate.
· Cross-selling CBI’s policy intelligenceand events into a commercial offer to members within your portfolio,including flagship events and specialist policy products.
Developing specialist expertise to help deepen the CBI’s memberoffer
· Reflecting the composition of your membershipportfolio and your policy interests, working with teams from acrossthe CBI to gain greater experience and knowledge in your area ofexpertise.
· Deploying this expertise to help improve theCBI’s offer around either specific sectors of the economy or distinctpolicy areas. This can be through helping to influence policy agendas,sharing insight on new developments, and by providing access to newmember networks.
Success Criteria
· Level ofretention of existing members meeting an annual target of renewals anduplifts in subscription values in your portfolio.
· Levelof renewals and uplifts within the broader team in line with annualtargets.
· Positive and productive relationships withmember companies and their senior representatives.
· Successful onboarding of new members, evidenced by renewal ofmembership at first-year anniversary
· Level of seniorengagement in member companies
· Maintenance of the CBI’sprofile and authority within the London & South East region
·Consistently displaying high levels of leadership behaviours andcollaboration with colleagues across the CBI.
· Demonstrating and fostering good practice in account managementadministration, including CRM use.
Knowledge &Experience
What an individual must know or understand to beable to fulfil the role’s requirements
· Experience instrategic account management dealing with senior business people inlarge and complex organisations through long-term relationships.
· Can demonstrate a clear understanding of the principlesand application of best practice relationship management
· Experience of playing a leadership role within an organisation throughline management or other leadership positions.
· Strongrelationship-building and networking skills
· Stronginterest in and awareness of the political and economic environment inthe UK and the impact of the broader geopolitical landscape.
·Well-developed awareness and understanding of evolving opportunitiesand pressures within the business environment.
Thisis a fixed-term role for a period of nine months.
