What you'll do

The Security Controller will be critical to ensuring that Viasat’s European team complies with security-related contractual requirements, especially for its most sensitive programs. This role consolidates the duties of both a Facility Security Controller and Personnel Security Controller. The position involves frequent liaison with multiple stakeholders across Viasat, the UK Ministry of Defense, and our government customers. The role will report to the UK Workplace Services team but will have direct access to the Viasat London Board Level Contact to ensure the duties of the role are carried out successfully.

The day-to-day

The role has overall responsibility for all aspects of security, specifically interpreting, implementing, and monitoring security controls to protect classified assets.

• Fulfill the role of FSC Security Controller
• Take direction from the Board Level Security Contact
• Interpret and implement Security Aspect Letters (SALs)
• Carry out security clearance checks on visitors
• Ensure controlled and authorized use of mobile devices and removable media
• Coordinate UK and international visit requests
• Perform periodic reviews and spot checks of classified assets
• Maintain security documents, asset registers, risk registers, and reports
• Manage Protectively Marked Material (PPM) and secure disposal of assets
• Log asset movements and liaise with authorities
• Maintain the Site Security Document (SSD)
• Prepare and update Company Security Instructions (CSI)
• Control access to sensitive assets, ensuring the 'need-to-know' principle
• Maintain Surreptitious Threat Mitigation Process (STaMP) assessments
• Ensure security measures for joiners, movers, and leavers are followed
• Maintain contacts with the local Counter Terrorism Security Adviser (CTSA)

Personnel Security

• Manage BPSS screening and vetting applications as Personnel Security Controller (PSC)
• Coordinate security clearance aftercare
• Ensure ongoing compliance with security clearance obligations
• Support Industry Personnel Security Assurance (IPSA) programs

Physical Security

• Manage furniture, keys, locks, and logs
• Oversee CCTV, IDS, building security, and area security
• Conduct regular security code changes
• Control visitor and employee access

Security Management

• Create internal SALs and Security Management Plans (SMPs)
• Manage security programs and advise management on security controls
• Conduct security audits and address non-conformances
• Maintain ISO 27001 ISMS and site risk register
• Identify risks, implement mitigations, and conduct security training
• Represent the business in security briefings and maintain security accreditations
• Manage security personnel and security operations

Investigation Security

• Handle security incidents, breaches, and investigations
• Report incidents involving classified material
• Manage technical counter surveillance and criminal activity investigations

What you'll need

• Experience in security roles with knowledge of:
• Facility Security Clearance (FSC) policies for UK defense
• ISAC and IPSA processes
• Compliance with SALs and security standards (JSP, DEFCON)
• Ability to handle UK Eyes Only material and achieve SC clearance (preferably DV)
