Location: Devizes HQ, Wiltshire

Hours: Full-time Monday to Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm or 9am – 5pm

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our Occupational Health team supporting the psychological wellbeing of police officers and staff. This is a specialist role that involves working autonomously to provide expert mental health assessments, interventions, and advice within the context of a high-risk, trauma-exposed working environment.

You will play a crucial role in promoting mental resilience, supporting officers experiencing mental health difficulties, and advising on fitness for work and operational deployment. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the health, safety, and performance of those who serve in a demanding profession.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive, evidence-based mental health assessments for officers and staff presenting with psychological issues.
  • Provide clear, clinically-informed advice on fitness for work, return-to-work plans, and reasonable adjustments.
  • Conduct risk assessments for individuals affected by trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, or other mental health conditions.
  • Offer brief interventions, psychoeducation, and emotional support within scope of practice.
  • Refer or signpost individuals to appropriate external or internal support pathways (e.g., IAPT, counselling, trauma services).
  • Work closely with OH Advisors, GPs, psychologists, HR, and line managers to support staff wellbeing while maintaining operational capability.
  • Participate in training delivery, wellbeing campaigns, and initiatives to raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental health in policing.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in line with NMC standards and organisational policies.
  • Contribute to service development, audit, and clinical governance activities.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with valid NMC registration.
  • Extensive experience of working within a variety of settings within the field of mental health nursing.
  • Experience of managing complex and high risk cases and triaging appropriately to ensure risk management.
  • Experience in delivering care relating to anxiety management, anger management and depressive disorders.
  • Experience working independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation (e.g., Equality Act, Data Protection, Health & Safety)
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of occupational health.
  • Experience of being involved in health promotion and training activities.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and up to date records in line with NMC code of practice for Nurses.
  • Ability to analyse data and create reports to reflect findings from health assessments.

Desirable:

  • UK Recognised qualification in CBT, counselling or stress management
  • Experience of working for a Police Force.
  • Significant experience in working in a recovery-focused manner with clients using a variety of therapeutic approaches such as CBT and solution-focused therapy.
