Job Description for Engineering Design Manager:

As an Engineering Design Manager, you will oversee the delivery of Engineering Design within the UKNNL Central Laboratory, from scope development and feasibility to design support during commissioning and operational phases. This role involves delivering multiple projects of national importance to the UK nuclear industry, contributing to societal benefits.

Location: Flexible, based at Sellafield or Risley.

Main Responsibilities:

• Lead engineering design standards and practices to ensure safe, legal, and compliant deliverables.
• Manage the duties of the CDM Principal Designer.
• Engage subject matter experts effectively and utilize lessons learned.
• Ensure solutions meet performance, safety, and design intent requirements.
• Generate documentation to meet safety and legal standards for nuclear site operations.
• Provide leadership and support to multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Build strong stakeholder relationships within Engineering and UKNNL.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives.

Project Management Responsibilities:

• Ensure project delivery aligns with specifications, budget, and schedule.
• Develop fit-for-purpose, integrated, and affordable design solutions.
• Identify and manage technical, safety, and engineering risks.
• Maintain accurate reporting on project status and performance.
• Assign qualified design resources to projects.

Essential Criteria:

• Qualifications: HNC Engineering.
• Membership: Incorporated Engineer.
• Experience: Significant engineering management experience within a regulated, quality-assured system.
• Ability to obtain SC security clearance.

Desirable Criteria:

• Qualifications: MEng (Hons).
• Membership: Chartered Engineer or equivalent experience.
• Experience: Nuclear industry experience, preferably at Sellafield, in engineering management.
