We're expanding our Registrar team to 8 WTE positions and are advertising:
We have a strong track record of progressing our registrars' careers, including successful applications to National Training Numbers. We also support colleagues applying for CESR training.
Minimal Urology experience required — 6 months at CT2 level in Urology suffices. The successful applicant will be on-call for Urology at registrar level covering St Richard's and Worthing hospital.
The Urology department at University Hospitals Sussex serves a population of 450,000 in West Sussex. The department has in-patients at Worthing and St Richard's, with access to theatre and clinic facilities at St Richard's, Worthing, and Southlands Hospitals.
At Worthing Hospital, outpatients are mainly held in a new outpatient department, with endoscopy in a dedicated unit. Theatre facilities support both short-stay and major surgical procedures for Urology patients, including nephrectomy, adrenalectomy, PCNL, TURiS, HOLEP, TURBT, and all stone surgeries with dedicated theatre teams.
The successful candidate will join a busy, cohesive DGH department. Depending on experience, they may participate in or run outpatient clinics, including prostate biopsies, flexible cystoscopies, intravesical Botox injections, and general urology clinics. They will also have dedicated theatre sessions (endourology, functional, paediatric, or general urology). Responsibilities include daily ward rounds, assisting juniors, and teaching. Participation in MDTs is encouraged. Candidates should have good communication, leadership, and managerial skills, and a keenness to learn.

Essential qualifications include a basic medical degree, postgraduate/specialist qualification, GMC registration, and ALS certification. Desirable qualifications include a higher degree. Skills required include understanding clinical risk management, good communication, teamwork, and teaching interest. Evidence of audit participation and research experience is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate appropriate career progression, good communication skills, and a commitment to teaching.
