Title: Trainee/Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Location: South Wales (Swansea to Cardiff)

Salary: GBP25,000 to GBP26,000 + package

Sector: New Build, Residential, Commercial - Main Contractor

About the Company:

Our client is a successful main contractor with an established reputation within the South Wales market across various sectors. Projects include new build and refurbishment works in residential and commercial sectors.

The Role:

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Junior/Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the regional commercial team. You will assist with the day-to-day commercial aspects of construction projects, working from Swansea to Cardiff. The role involves liaising between the office, sites, and home. Reporting to an experienced Senior QS, you will benefit from strong training, development, and progression opportunities. Candidates may be currently enrolled in a related Degree course or recently qualified, with a qualification in Quantity Surveying (HND or Degree) or wider Construction Management if some QS experience is present.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in achieving the optimum commercial return for projects.
• Help prepare accurate cost/value reconciliation reports.
• Prepare and agree interim valuations to maximize commercial advantage.
• Assist in finalizing accounts with subcontractors to optimize project margins.
• Ensure subcontract orders are prepared according to company procedures and project schedules.
• Maintain control over subcontractor accounts and minimize variations costs.
• Manage subcontracts in terms of valuation and correspondence.
• Perform duties as a quantity surveyor on projects as instructed.
• Ensure maximum commercial return for projects under your control.
• Prepare or assist with monthly cost/value reconciliation reports and forecast the final financial position.
• Prepare and update cash flow forecasts in line with project progress.

The Person:

• Currently studying for a QS-related course or have at least 6 months experience with a main contractor.
• HND or BSc Degree in a construction-related field is preferable.
• Keen to develop a long-term career as a QS.
• Innovative with the ability to identify improvements.
• A good team player eager to contribute to a growing business.
• Commutable between Cardiff and Swansea.
