Job summary

A leading engineering firm is seeking a Planning Engineer to develop and monitor contract programmes. The role involves producing schedules, analyzing performance, and ensuring project timelines are met. Job Purpose: To develop, operate, and monitor the relevant contract programmes for the work scope to ensure the contract is controlled and executed within budget and duration.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. To produce all necessary programmes at appropriate times to reflect the overall contract requirements.
  2. To monitor and update all contract programmes through relevant discussions with all relevant parties.
  3. To predict and communicate critical path deviations to enable management to take corrective action.
  4. To optimise the use of approved computer software packages to meet accountabilities 1 – 3.
  5. To incorporate emergent works effectively into existing programmes.
  6. To report progress against programme regularly and record any delays with reasoning.

Key Duties:

  • Produce programme
  • Monitor programme continually against performance
  • Incorporate programme variations
  • Report programme status to client/management
  • Anticipate problem areas regarding critical paths and advise remedial actions
  • Allocate estimated costs to activities on the programme and assist in baselining
  • Develop and communicate resource requirements to meet project timescales
  • Analyze Earned Value Performance on the project

Experiences & Qualifications:

  • Sufficient experience as an assistant/trainee Planning Engineer
  • Experience in Petrochemical, Power & Process Industry sectors
  • Ability to produce feasible programmes from scope of work
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with relevant parties
  • Ability to anticipate and highlight critical programme areas
  • Fluency in Primavera P6 and Excel for accurate reporting
  • Awareness of technical implications and interfaces for effective programming
  • Understanding of planning impact on safety, quality, and cost

Role Qualifications:

  • Relevant HNC/Degree qualification
  • QCF Diploma Level 3/5 Planning
  • APMP Practitioner
  • Supporting craft training and relevant CPD training
