Job description

The Underwriting Assistant will provide support to the Reinsurance Underwriting Team in all aspects of Underwriting, account management, administration, and monitoring.

Key Accountabilities:

1. To liaise with operational functions on the processing of Reinsurance policies.
2. To assist underwriters in completing modelling submissions, pricing tools, and account documentation.
3. To assist in exposure management and portfolio data analysis.
4. To engage in underwriting training and development, both internally and externally, with the goal of attaining underwriting authority.
5. Engage with brokers and clients, building market relationships.
6. To monitor and respond to changes in regulation and compliance.
7. Prepare for and attend peer review meetings.
8. Undertake analysis and tracking of QS bordereaux.

Responsibilities

As part of the applicant’s progression towards attaining underwriting authority, the following competencies are expected:

1. Judgement and decision-making skills – ability to approach problems logically and rationally, evaluating quantitative and qualitative data to make measured risk decisions.
2. Relationship building – ability and confidence to establish and maintain excellent relationships with external stakeholders such as brokers, clients, and reinsurers in a client-facing role.

Qualifications

• Excellent IT skills, including intermediate Excel (ability to use formulas effectively and produce graphical data), and proficiency in other Windows Office and Adobe applications.
• Strong numerical skills.
• Lloyd’s market experience is preferable.
• A levels or equivalent qualifications.
• ACII qualifications, or willingness to work towards them.
