Job summary

Tioxide is seeking an Electrical and Instrument Technician to maintain plant electrical and instrumentation equipment in line with the weekly maintenance plan and site standards.

The role supports fault diagnosis, testing, commissioning and reliability improvements, ensuring safety and compliance with EHSQ standards.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Instrument/Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Practical experience maintaining electrical/instrumentation equipment in industrial/processing environment.
  • Understanding of safe systems of work, risk assessment, permit-to-work.

Responsibilities

  • Complete planned and emergent electrical and instrumentation maintenance per site standards.
  • Coordinate maintenance with safe systems of work, risk assessments, permits and procedures.
  • Carry out functional and evaluation testing on electrical/instrumentation systems; maintain QA records.

Job description

The Electrical and Instrument Technician is responsible for maintaining plant electrical and instrumentation equipment, ensuring work is completed in line with the weekly maintenance plan, applicable site standards and safe systems of work.

The role responds to planned and emergent E&I work, supports fault diagnosis, testing, commissioning and plant reliability improvements, and helps ensure equipment is maintained safely, effectively and to the required EHSQ and reliability standards.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Complete planned and emergent electrical and instrumentation maintenance work in accordance with Tioxide site standards, reporting any non-conformances that may impact EHSQ performance or equipment reliability.
  • Coordinate and carry out maintenance work in line with safe systems of work, including risk assessments, permit-to-work requirements and applicable site procedures.
  • Carry out functional and evaluation testing on specialised electrical and instrumentation systems, ensuring quality assurance systems, procedures and records are maintained accurately.
  • Use relevant IT and plant control systems, including Mod 300, DeltaV, SAP and electronic logs, to support fault diagnosis, maintenance reporting and effective handover.
  • Test and commission new or modified electrical and instrumentation systems as required, ensuring work is completed safely and to the required technical standard.
  • Respond effectively to planned and emergent E&I issues, selecting appropriate courses of action and escalating or communicating with the E&I Lead where required.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to enhance plant stability, maximise uptime, improve quality and support reliability through effective problem-solving and root cause analysis.
  • Provide flexible cover for other technicians where required and demonstrate behaviours that support a positive values-based culture.
Experience and Qualifications:
  • NVQ Level 3, or equivalent, in Instrument Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Practical experience maintaining electrical and/or instrumentation equipment in an industrial, manufacturing or process environment.
  • Understanding of safe systems of work, including risk assessment and permit-to-work processes.
  • Ability to complete planned and emergent maintenance work safely, accurately and to the required standard.
  • Ability to carry out fault diagnosis, testing and commissioning on electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records using electronic logs, SAP or similar systems.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to give and receive accurate technical handovers.
  • Ability to identify equipment issues, apply problem-solving techniques and recommend practical improvements.
  • Experience working within a chemical, process, high-hazard or COMAH manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using Mod 300, DeltaV or similar plant control systems.
  • Experience working to formal site I/E standards and quality assurance procedures.
  • Experience applying root cause analysis to maintenance or operational issues.
  • Experience supporting plant reliability, uptime and continuous improvement activity.
  • Dual-skilled electrical and instrumentation experience.
