Tioxide in the UK seeks a Process Engineer to provide technical, operational and process safety support to the area team, ensuring safe, reliable operations that meet production and quality targets.

The role drives continuous improvement across capacity, cost, product quality, environmental performance and process safety, leading plant trials, investigating incidents and providing training to operations teams.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards Chartered status.
  • 2+ years' experience in an Upper Tier COMAH manufacturing or high-hazard environment.
  • Manufacturing operational experience delivering measurable benefits.
  • Experience leading cross-functional problem-solving activities.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • Proficient IT skills, including Excel and data tools.
  • Experience with energy and process safety activities.

Responsibilities

  • Drive continuous improvement to increase capacity, reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Investigate incidents and losses; implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to operations teams.
  • Support site technical duty rota with technical input for safe operations.
  • Lead plant trials and communicate requirements to the manufacturing team.
  • Support ISO50001 energy improvements and environmental compliance.

Job description

The Process Engineer provides technical, operational and process safety support to the area team, helping to ensure plant operations are safe, reliable, compliant and capable of delivering required production and quality targets.

The role drives continuous improvement in plant process and operational performance by identifying and implementing improvement opportunities relating to capacity, variable costs, product quality, environmental performance and process safety.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Drive continuous improvement of plant performance by identifying and implementing improvement opportunities that support current and future production capacity, variable cost reduction and product quality improvement.
  • Investigate process incidents, production losses and operational issues using appropriate problem-solving tools, ensuring effective corrective actions are identified and implemented to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide technical understanding, oversight, guidance and training to operations teams to support high levels of process competence, safe operation and consistent performance.
  • Participate in the site technical duty rota, providing technical advice, escalation support and process engineering input as required to support safe, compliant and reliable plant operations.
  • Fulfil Management of Change and inhibit signatory responsibilities, providing technical review and approval to ensure proposed changes are appropriately assessed, controlled and compliant with site governance requirements.
  • Lead plant trials, ensuring technical and safety assessments are completed in a timely manner, and trial requirements are clearly communicated to the manufacturing team.
  • Promote environmental performance and environmental compliance, ensuring environmental issues are investigated, understood, resolved and escalated where required.
  • Support area energy improvement activity, including contribution to the ISO50001 improvement plan where required.
  • Demonstrate behaviours that support a positive values-based culture, effective collaboration and continuous improvement across the manufacturing area.
Experience and Qualifications:
  • Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards Chartered status.
  • Minimum of 2 years' industry experience within an Upper Tier COMAH manufacturing, chemical or process environment.
  • Manufacturing operational experience, including manufacturing improvement and delivery of measurable business benefits.
  • Experience leading problem-solving activity across Production, Engineering and Technical functions.
  • Proven ability to analyse problems, identify root causes and take effective corrective or improvement actions.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to mobilise technical contributors across the organisation without direct line management authority.
  • Ability to create tools, reports or analysis models within relevant software packages.
  • Experience acting as, or training towards, on-call technical support for process upsets & major accident hazard tactical response.
  • Experience acting as, or training towards, Management of Change and Inhibits signatory responsibilities.
  • Experience acting as an Energy Champion or supporting ISO50001 improvement activity.
  • Experience leading plant trials within a manufacturing or process environment.
  • Experience supporting process safety assessments, environmental compliance or operational risk reviews.
  • Experience working on TiO₂, chemical or high-hazard process manufacturing assets
