Qualifications

  • Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or demonstrable progression toward registration.
  • Significant electrical engineering experience in COMAH/chemical or heavy industry.
  • Knowledge of HV/LV systems, protection, switchgear and industrial installations.
  • Experience with standards, governance systems and engineering best practices.
  • Experience leading investigations, reliability initiatives and technical assurance.
  • Asset integrity and lifecycle management understanding.
  • Experience using SAP PM or CMMS systems.
  • Strong report writing, communication and stakeholder skills.
  • CEng registration or equivalent HV authorisation experience.

Job Summary

The Electrical Technical Authority acts as the technical approver for significant electrical engineering decisions and ensures electrical risks are identified, assessed and controlled throughout the asset lifecycle. The role supports safe, reliable and cost‑effective operation of electrical systems while maintaining compliance with COMAH, Electricity at Work Regulations, BS7671, BS EN standards, DSEAR and hazardous area requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Technical Authority and Governance Act as the designated Electrical Technical Authority for the Greatham site, maintaining ownership of electrical engineering standards, specifications, procedures and technical governance requirements to ensure legal compliance and engineering best practice.
  • Electrical Asset Integrity and Lifecycle Management Maintain the integrity, reliability, availability and lifecycle performance of electrical assets including HV and LV distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, motor control centres, drives, UPS systems, protection systems, power monitoring equipment and associated infrastructure. Develop long‑term strategies for replacement, refurbishment and obsolescence management of critical electrical infrastructure, supporting investment planning and asset sustainability objectives.
  • Electrical Standards, Compliance and Safety Leadership Develop, approve and maintain electrical engineering standards, procedures and specifications while providing leadership in electrical safety management. Ensure compliance with Electricity at Work Regulations, BS7671, relevant IEC and BS EN standards, DSEAR, COMAH requirements and corporate engineering standards through effective safe systems of work, isolation procedures, electrical authorisation systems, arc flash management, protection coordination and competency standards for electrical personnel and contractors.
  • Inspection, Testing and Assurance Develop and oversee inspection, testing and maintenance strategies for electrical infrastructure, ensuring statutory inspections, compliance assessments and periodic testing programmes are completed and recorded within SAP.
  • Reliability and Continuous Improvement Lead electrical reliability improvement initiatives through failure investigations, root cause analysis, maintenance strategy reviews, asset criticality assessments and lifecycle planning to reduce business risk and improve operational performance.
  • Capital Projects, Modifications and Contractor Management Provide technical approval, engineering assurance and oversight for electrical aspects of capital projects, modifications, Management of Change activities, specialist contractors, consultants and OEMs. Ensure designs, work scopes, standards, testing requirements and deliverables meet site standards, operational requirements, regulatory obligations and Tioxide engineering expectations, acting as the final signatory where required.
  • Technical Support and Fault Resolution Provide specialist technical support for complex electrical issues, equipment failures and plant incidents, supporting operations and maintenance teams in diagnosing, evaluating and resolving electrical problems. Member of the Duty I&E manager rota.
  • Competency Development Support development of electrical engineering competency across the site through mentoring, coaching and guidance of engineers, HV personnel, technicians and contractors, ensuring technical capability is maintained and continuously improved.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
  • Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or demonstrable progression towards professional registration.
  • Significant electrical engineering experience within a COMAH, chemical, process manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of HV and LV power systems, electrical protection, switchgear, transformers and industrial electrical installations.
  • Strong understanding of Electricity at Work Regulations, BS7671, DSEAR, COMAH and electrical engineering best practices.
  • Experience developing engineering standards, specifications and governance systems.
  • Experience leading complex electrical investigations, reliability improvement initiatives and technical assurance activities.
  • Strong understanding of asset integrity and lifecycle management principles.
  • Experience working within SAP PM or equivalent CMMS systems.
  • Excellent technical report writing, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration through a recognised engineering institution.
  • Senior Authorised Person or equivalent HV authorisation experience.
  • CompEx accreditation or detailed hazardous area engineering experience.
  • Experience of electrical design, protection coordination and power system studies.
  • Experience supporting major capital projects and brownfield modifications.
