Job summary

M-Sport UK is seeking a Dyno Test Technician to join the Engine and Dyno team at Dovenby Hall. This role suits someone passionate about motorsport, engineering and high-performance competition engines, with responsibility for development and testing of competition engines.

You will prepare engines and dynamometer facilities, assist with engine installation, operate dyno equipment, collect data, troubleshoot faults and contribute to process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Education: A relevant engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • Passion for Motorsport & Engineering: A strong interest in motorsport, automotive engineering and high-performance vehicles.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Good practical skills with an interest in understanding how engines and mechanical systems operate.
  • Technical Understanding: An understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, with an interest in engine performance and testing.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to work accurately and methodically whilst maintaining high standards of workmanship.
  • Data & Analytical Skills: Ability to understand and interpret technical information and data.
  • Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Organisation & Time Management: Ability to manage tasks effectively and maintain a tidy and organised workplace.
  • Safety Awareness: A strong understanding of the importance of working safely around high-performance engines, machinery, fuel, and test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Dyno Test Preparation: Prepare competition engines, test equipment and dynamometer facilities for scheduled testing activities.
  • Engine Installation: Assist with the installation, removal and preparation of engines on dynamometer test cells.
  • Dyno Operations: Safely operate engine dynamometer equipment in accordance with established procedures and test requirements.
  • Data Acquisition: Monitor and record engine performance data during testing, ensuring accurate and reliable information is captured.
  • Fault Finding: Assist Engineers with the identification and investigation of engine, test equipment and instrumentation faults.
  • Test Procedures: Follow detailed test procedures and technical instructions to ensure testing is carried out consistently and accurately.
  • Maintenance & Inspection: Carry out routine maintenance, inspection and preparation of dyno equipment and associated facilities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development of testing processes and procedures to improve efficiency, reliability and data quality.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally-Raid, GT racing and a variety of global customer racing activities. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Dyno Test Technician to join our growing Engine and Dyno team at our Dovenby Hall headquarters. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a passion for motorsport, engineering and high-performance competition engines to play a key role in the development and testing of competition engines.

Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience of engine testing, dynamometers or data acquisition systems.
  • Good understanding of internal combustion engines and engine management systems.
  • Experience using mechanical workshop tools and equipment.
