Job summary

Liberty Woodland School in London is seeking a confident Secondary Cover Supervisor to join our growing secondary team, supporting Years 7–11 when teachers are absent. You will help maintain high behaviour standards, organise engaging activities and ensure learning continues smoothly across the day.

We welcome experienced Cover Supervisors, unqualified teachers, ECTs, Teaching Assistants ready to supervise classrooms, and graduates considering teaching careers.

Qualifications

• Experience working with secondary-aged students, or the confidence and aptitude to develop this quickly.
• The ability to lead and manage a classroom independently.
• Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
• A calm, consistent and positive approach to behaviour management.
• Good literacy, numeracy and general academic confidence across secondary subjects.
• Flexibility and the ability to adapt to different classes, subjects and situations.
• A genuine interest in young people's education, wellbeing and personal development.
• Enthusiasm for working within a progressive, forward-thinking educational environment.
• Previous classroom experience is desirable, but Qualified Teacher Status is not essential.

Responsibilities

• Supervising classes across Years 7–11 during teacher absence, ensuring students complete the learning activities provided.
• Establishing a calm, positive and productive classroom environment, with clear expectations for behaviour and engagement.
• Communicating instructions effectively and encouraging students to work independently, take responsibility and remain focused.
• Following lesson plans and resources provided by teachers, maintaining continuity of learning across different subjects.
• Managing classroom behaviour confidently, consistently and respectfully, in line with the school's ethos and policies.
• Providing feedback to teachers on lesson completion, student engagement and any relevant classroom matters.
• Supporting the organisation, presentation and upkeep of secondary classrooms and learning spaces when cover is not required.
• Assisting with classroom resources, displays, equipment and practical preparation as directed by the secondary team.
• Contributing positively to the wider life and culture of the school.
