Job summary

Skillmatch Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Mechanical Shift Engineer for a leading facilities management contractor in the UK. The role covers planned and reactive FM maintenance across multiple properties with emphasis on safety and compliance.

You will handle preventative maintenance, breakdowns, and energy-saving initiatives while supervising subcontractors and ensuring timely documentation.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds Level II/III (or equivalent) in relevant mechanical disciplines.
• Experience in maintenance, testing, and fault-finding on mechanical systems.
• Strong Health & Safety understanding and safe working practices.
• Proactive approach with a customer-care focus.
• Good communication skills and ability to document work clearly.
• Ability to diagnose, anticipate, and repair faults promptly.
• Capable of completing essential paperwork accurately and promptly.

Responsibilities

• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance and complete all paperwork.
• Respond to reactive and emergency breakdowns with accurate documentation.
• Assist other team members as directed by the Supervisor or Contract Manager.
• Ensure all tasks are completed within contractual time scales.
• Proactively support energy-reduction initiatives on site.
• Supervise visiting sub-contractors, ensuring Health & Safety compliance.
• Adopt a flexible attitude to support additional properties when required.
• Complete all documentation accurately and on time.
• Work safely, diligently and in line with company policies and procedures.
• Participate in training and appraisal activities.
• Undertake additional duties in line with capability as required.
