Job summary

Bright Star Talent Limited is seeking an English Teacher to join a secondary school in Ladywood, Birmingham. You will teach English Language and Literature across KS3 and KS4, supporting GCSE preparation and helping pupils develop reading, writing, speaking and analytical skills.

The role requires QTS or equivalent, strong classroom management, and a commitment to improving literacy. You will plan lessons, assess work, and collaborate with the English department to monitor progress.

Qualifications

• QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching English in a secondary school.
• Strong knowledge of the KS3 and GCSE English Language and Literature curriculum.
• Ability to explain texts clearly to pupils of varying abilities.
• Confident classroom management and effective communication skills.
• Organised planning, marking and assessment approaches.
• Commitment to improving literacy and supporting pupils needing extra help.
• Ability to work collaboratively across the department.

Responsibilities

• Planning and delivering English Language and Literature lessons across KS3 and KS4.
• Teaching fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama aligned to the department curriculum.
• Developing pupils’ reading, vocabulary and written accuracy.
• Teaching students to analyse language, structure and themes.
• Modelling clear essay writing and guiding evidence-based responses.
• Preparing pupils for GCSE examinations with revision and exam technique.
• Assessing work and giving constructive feedback with next steps.
• Adapting lessons for SEND and additional literacy needs.
• Maintaining good behaviour and consistent classroom expectations.
• Collaborating with the English department and support staff to monitor progress.
