Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a Biology Teacher for a secondary school in Durham. The role covers KS3 and KS4, delivering Biology and General Science lessons and preparing students for GCSE assessments. Immediate start and a full-time, permanent contract are on offer.

You will plan engaging lessons, support practical investigations, and differentiate teaching to meet diverse student needs, while upholding safety and assessment standards across the science department.

Qualifications

• Hold QTS or be eligible Early Career Teacher.
• Have a degree or strong subject knowledge in Biology or a related scientific discipline.
• Be confident teaching Biology and Science at secondary level.
• Understand GCSE Biology curriculum and assessment requirements.
• Demonstrate effective lesson planning and classroom management.
• Be confident delivering practical activities safely.
• Use assessment to monitor understanding and improve student progress.
• Maintain high expectations for behaviour and achievement.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver lessons that develop students' understanding of biological systems across KS3 and KS4.
• Teach biological concepts with clear explanations and relevant examples.
• Prepare students for GCSE Biology assessments and examinations.
• Develop students' scientific vocabulary and understanding of key terminology.
• Use practical investigations to reinforce learning where appropriate.
• Support students in interpreting experimental results and biological data.
• Assess work and provide constructive feedback.
• Monitor progress and identify areas requiring further support.
• Differentiate lessons to accommodate varied learning needs and attainment levels.
• Provide appropriate challenge for higher-attaining learners.
• Ensure practical activities follow relevant safety procedures.
• Work with colleagues to develop resources and improve curriculum delivery.
