Job summary

The Information Systems Specialist role sits in the Digital Services team at Sheffield City Council, focusing on building, maintaining and improving Drupal websites and digital services to help residents and businesses find information and transact online. The post emphasises Drupal/PHP (Twig), front-end work and API integrations, with ongoing priorities on accessibility, performance and security.

Experience with Drupal or an equivalent CMS is the main test of fit.

Qualifications

• Developing websites in Drupal or an equivalent CMS.
• Custom Drupal modules, themes and site functionality.
• HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery and modern front-end practices.
• Git and GitHub for source control and collaborative development.
• REST APIs and system integrations.
• Docker or DDEV containerised development environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and enhance Drupal websites and digital services.
• Build and maintain integrations with internal and external systems using APIs and other technologies.
• Create clean, secure and maintainable code to agreed development standards.
• Develop reusable components, templates and functionality for consistent digital services.
• Troubleshoot defects, performance issues and technical problems across websites and applications.
• Support the ongoing improvement of accessibility, usability, performance and security.
• Contribute to testing and quality assurance activities.
• Work with content specialists, user researchers, service designers and stakeholders to understand user needs and deliver solutions.
• Take part in technical discussions, service improvements and continuous development.
• Provide technical advice and guidance to colleagues and share knowledge across the team.
• Contribute to customer journeys, service improvements and digital products.
