Job summary

Great Western Railway (GWR) is hiring a Driver Standards Manager at Reading depot to support and develop our Driver teams. You will drive performance improvements, ensure drivers are equipped with the tools and knowledge to deliver first-class service, and work with the competence management framework.

You will line-manage drivers, oversee attendance and development, and contribute to safety briefings and investigations while supporting ongoing training and on-call duties.

Qualifications

• An enthusiastic individual with mainline Qualified Train Driver competence.
• A strong team player with previous line management experience.
• An excellent communicator who can supply subject matter expertise relating to the development of company standards and working practices.
• A methodical approach to work with good Microsoft office skills and experience of maintaining accurate records.
• A D31/D32 or A1 certification would be an advantage, although training in this area can be provided.

Responsibilities

• Line management of a Driver team, providing welfare support, management of attendance records and development.
• Delivery of GWR’s competence management systems for safety critical operational staff, focusing primarily on Drivers.
• Assessing and developing operational competence, particularly train driving performance to deliver improvements in line with company and industry requirements
• Incident/accident investigations and due diligence checks
• Safety briefing of Drivers
• Involvement in Operational Training of Drivers
• On call commitment
