Job summary

GTR is recruiting a Competency Development Manager (Driver) for Brighton Train Crew Depot. The role targets qualified drivers with strong safety records and a focus on developing colleagues’ competencies, with no remote working and regular travel to depots.

You will lead a team, plan development activities, and conduct competency investigations after incidents to maximise safe, reliable services across the network.

Qualifications

• Qualified train drivers with a minimum of four years' driving experience on the mainline railway network.
• Strong safety record, and suitability assessed by Head of Operational Standards.
• Knowledge of Electrostar fleets and valid route competency on Southern network is advantageous.
• A1 assessor qualification is advantageous; training may be provided to support attainment.

Responsibilities

• Develop development plans for drivers requiring additional support.
• Undertake competency investigations following operational incidents to ensure safety and performance.
• Manage and prioritise driver development and competency assessments within the team.
• Travel to diverse locations and engage with depot colleagues to support competency development; on-site presence required.
