Job summary

Liverpool City Council is looking for a Driver Operative in the Greenspaces team to perform a broad range of grounds maintenance tasks across highways, green spaces, recreation sites and cemeteries. You will drive as needed and help deliver safe, efficient operations with colleagues.

The role operates on a 4 On, 4 Off pattern for 28 weeks (March to September) with an additional weekend allowance of £3,345.26 per annum; driving licence and safety awareness are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a full UK driving licence (Category B).
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements relevant to the role.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out a broad range of grounds maintenance tasks including cleansing, pruning, weed control, grassland & meadow management, herbicide application, sports turf maintenance and tree lifting.
  • Work across highways, green spaces, recreation sites and cemeteries delivering safe, efficient and high‑quality grounds maintenance operations.
  • Focus on productivity, supporting colleagues to deliver routine and ad hoc tasks while continually improving sites for stakeholders.
  • Work safely, proactively and with urgency to ensure value for money for residents.

The role

Join us as a Driver Operative within our Greenspaces Team. As part of the role of Driver Operative within the Greenspaces Service you will be required to carry out a varied range of grounds maintenance related activities including, but not limited to, cleansing, pruning/shrubbery maintenance, weed control, grassland & meadow management, herbicide application, sports turf maintenance & tree lifting (from ground level). You'll work across highways, green spaces, recreational sites & cemeteries, using your expertise to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality grounds maintenance operations. In the role of Driver Operative you will focus on productivity, supporting colleagues to deliver routine & ad-hoc grounds maintenance tasks, continually striving to improve sites for the various stakeholders. You’re required to work safely, proactively and with urgency to ensure our services offer best value for our customers.

To be eligible to apply for the role you must hold a full UK driving licence (category B) and knowledge of health and safety requirements associated with the role. You must be able to work as part of a team and have good verbal and written communication skills. Please note that this role is a 4 On, 4 Off working pattern for 28 weeks (March - September) which incurs an additional weekend allowance of £3,345.26 per annum. Please note this additional allowance will be paid in addition to the salary quoted.
