Job summary

Browne Construction is seeking a reliable Driver Operative (3.5 Tonne) to support civils and utility projects across multiple sites in the region. You will transport materials, assist with excavation works, and help maintain safe, well‑organised sites while adhering to health and safety standards.

A DBS check and occasional out‑of‑hours work may be required. The role requires a full, clean UK driving licence, practical knowledge of vehicle maintenance, and a proactive, flexible approach to site

Qualifications

Responsibilities

This is a varied, hands‑on role where you'll support civils and utility projects across multiple sites while helping to keep operations running smoothly.

Vacancy Introduction

As a Driver Operative (3.5 Tonne), you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation of civils works sites across the region. Working alongside Supervisors, Gangers and site teams, you'll carry out a range of practical duties, including transporting materials and equipment, supporting excavation and utility works, maintaining safe and organised work areas, and ensuring vehicles are kept clean and roadworthy. The role also involves loading and unloading vehicles, transporting waste materials to approved disposal sites, assisting with site set‑up and operational activities, and contributing to a positive health and safety culture. Flexibility is important, as you'll be required to participate in an emergency call‑out rota and occasionally work outside of standard hours when operational needs require.

What We're Looking For

• Experience driving and operating commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, including tipper vehicles.
• A full, clean UK driving licence.
• Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions effectively.
• A strong work ethic with a reliable, proactive approach to work.
• Basic knowledge of health and safety practices and a commitment to safe working.
• The ability to work across multiple sites and adapt to changing priorities.

Desirable

• Groundworks, civils or utility industry experience.
• Experience working in a fast‑paced, multi‑site environment.
• NRSWA Streetworks qualification.
• NPORS Vehicle Marshal certification.
• Emergency First Aid and Manual Handling training.
