Job summary

Farrans (Construction) Limited seeks an experienced Skilled Operative to join our civil engineering team in Coventry. You will deliver high-quality site works while upholding rigorous safety standards and supporting project delivery across disciplines.

The role covers groundworks, reinstatement, concreting, drainage and service installation. You will operate small plant, read site drawings, and ensure works meet specifications with a strong safety focus.

Qualifications

• Experience as Skilled Operative in civil engineering, construction, or highways.
• Groundworks and reinstatement techniques.
• Ability to read site drawings.
• Health & safety on site.
• Good teamwork and communication.

• Carry out groundworks, concreting, drainage, kerbing, paving, and reinstatement.
• Operate small plant and machinery (e.g., rollers, dumpers, breakers) per training.
• Assist with installation of services and utilities.
• Ensure works are completed safely and to specification.

• Carry out quality checks and maintain workmanship.
• Support colleagues to meet project deadlines.
• Maintain tools, plant, and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a wide range of site tasks including groundworks, concreting, drainage, kerbing, paving, and reinstatement.
• Operate small plant and machinery (e.g., rollers, dumpers, breakers) in line with training and certification.
• Assist with the installation of services and utilities.
• Ensure all works are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
• Comply with site safety rules, RAMS, and company procedures.
• Carry out quality checks and maintain high standards of workmanship.
• Support colleagues and supervisors to ensure project deadlines are met.
• Maintain tools, plant, and equipment in good working order.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Skilled Operative in civil engineering, construction, or highways.
• Competent in a variety of groundworks and reinstatement techniques.
• Ability to read and follow site drawings and instructions.
• Strong awareness of health & safety on site.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.

(Desirable but not always essential)

• CPCS / NPORS plant tickets (e.g., Dumper, Roller, 360 Excavator).
• Street Works (NRSWA) accreditation.
• Full UK driving licence.
