Job summary

Newark (NG24) is hiring a full-time, permanent Draughtsperson. You will join a close-knit team of engineers to produce technical drawings and specifications for bespoke projects, using CAD software and interpreting client requirements.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will ensure designs are feasible, compliant and support high-quality, reliable products. Prior draughting experience is essential; security/access sector experience is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • ONC, BTEC or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Competent in Autodesk AutoCAD 2D.
  • Competent in Autodesk Inventor with iLogic.

Responsibilities

  • Compile drawings for client approval from front sheet and specifications.
  • Liaise with BDMs to resolve client issues.
  • Provide technical support to Shop Floor and Service teams.
  • Conduct customer site visits and attend meetings as required.
  • Produce detail drawings and bills of materials for manufacture.
  • Update drawings, control prints and engineering documents.

Job description

A full-time, permanent Draughtsperson position is available in Newark (NG24), offering a competitive salary dependent on experience. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will join a close-knit team of electrical and mechanical engineers within a market-leading gate and barrier manufacturer established in 1984. This customer-facing role involves producing technical drawings and specifications to support bespoke projects. The position requires proficiency in CAD software, a sound understanding of mechanical engineering principles, and the ability to interpret client requirements accurately. Working collaboratively with engineers, you will ensure designs are feasible and compliant, contributing to the delivery of reliable, high-quality products. Previous experience in a similar draughting role is essential, with knowledge of the security or access industry advantageous. An excellent opportunity for an experienced Draughtsperson to join a well-established company based in Newark.

Role Purpose

Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working within a close-knit team of electrical and mechanical engineers. The role is customer facing and you will be expected to be able to contribute to technical discussions with customers and colleagues. As such excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are essential.

Job Duties
  • Compile drawings for client approval from front sheet, specification and information provided from BDMs
  • Act as customer liaisons to resolve potential “issues” or problems
  • Provide technical help and information to the Shop Floor and Service department
  • Customer site visits
  • Attend site meetings with clients as and when required.
  • Liaise with Design team to resolve production or development problems
  • Liaise with Sales team to provide technical support and assistance in producing drawings for estimating/sales purposes
  • Producing detail drawings for manufacture
  • Creating bills of materials for manufacture
  • Amending and updating existing drawings and control prints
  • Producing calculations to assist with designs for client approval
  • Assisting the shop floor with technical problems
  • Managing projects when needed
  • Updating technical documents and manuals when needed
  • Assist clients and engineers with telephone support
  • A working knowledge of fabrication and welding techniques
  • Other reasonable management requests
Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours
  • ONC, BTEC or higher in Mechanical Engineering
  • Competent in the use of Autodesk AutoCAD 2D
  • Competent in the use of Autodesk Inventor including knowledge of coding using iLogic
  • MS Office Experience including MS Excel.
  • Demonstrate the ability to plan, organise and prioritise work
  • Reliable & professional
  • Flexible attitude and ability to work within a team
  • Will be a strong communicator, confident liaising with clients, engineers and staff internally
  • Be able to work with minimal supervision and to specific deadlines
  • Clean Driving Licence
