Job description

Job Description: Teacher of Drama (Maternity cover)

Reports to: Head of Drama

We are looking for an exceptional Drama teacher for a fixed term maternity cover! This opportunity is perfect for someone who is passionate about their subject discipline and looking to join an ‘outstanding’ school. This is an exciting time to join the team, as our pupils excelled in their first ever GCSE results. This role is an opportunity to be part of a committed and passionate team. We plan collaboratively and work with colleagues across our network to ensure pupils receive exceptional learning and results.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Plan, resource and deliver lessons to the highest standard so that pupils make exceptional progress.
  2. Provide a nurturing environment that helps pupils to develop as learners.
  3. Contribute to establishing and maintaining discipline across the whole academy.
  4. Contribute to the wider development of each child and support our mission.

Who are we looking for?

  1. Someone who has a genuine passion for and a belief in the potential of every pupil.
  2. Has an aligned vision with Ark Pioneer.
  3. Effective team worker and leader.
  4. Has excellent interpersonal, planning and organisational skills.
  5. Degree in drama or theatre studies, or a closely related subject.
  6. Knowledge of the national secondary education system, examinations and curriculum.
  7. Has experience of reflecting on and improving teaching practice to increase pupil achievement.

What are the benefits of working with Ark?

We are lucky to be part of the Ark network of schools, and to build on the successes of numerous exceptional start-up schools in our North London region. Ark offers bespoke professional development to all team members and the opportunity to plan and moderate with colleagues in the same discipline, beyond our own school gates. Joining our network opens a breadth of opportunities - many of our team have taken on leadership roles progressing from one of our sister schools. In short, you won’t find a better network of schools to join!

Ark employees have benefits beyond the classroom including:

  1. Teaching salaries that are 2.5% higher than main pay scale.
  2. Generous pension schemes.
  3. Twice as many training days as standard.
  4. Access to exclusive discounts and support – from gym reductions to discounts in over 3,000 retailers.
  5. Interest-free loans of up to £5,000 available for train season tickets or to buy a bicycle.
  6. Access to our Employee Assistance Programme, which provides free confidential counselling, legal advice and a range of different support.

Safeguarding

Ark is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in its academies. In order to meet this responsibility, its academies follow a rigorous selection process to discourage and screen out unsuitable applicants.

Ark requires all employees to undertake an enhanced DBS check. You are required, before appointment, to disclose any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. Non-disclosure may lead to termination of employment. However, disclosure of a criminal background will not necessarily debar you from employment - this will depend upon the nature of the offence(s) and when they occurred.

We aim to build a diverse and inclusive organisation where everyone – staff and students – can do their best work and achieve their full potential. We want to reflect and represent diverse perspectives across our organisation because we know that doing so will make us stronger and more effective.
