Job summary

The Lanes Group is seeking a motivated Drainage Assistant to join the Woolpit Depot. You will work with experienced engineers to survey drainage systems, learn to assess conditions, identify defects, and support maintenance and repair strategies.

This permanent, full-time role features night and day shift patterns (nights 47.5 hours/week; 4 on 4 off days 40.25 hours/week). Salary ranges from £12.50 to £16.35 per hour, depending on experience and shift.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 penalty points).
• Strong interest in drainage, utilities, or civil engineering.
• Hands-on, outdoors work readiness.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with customers about scheduled works and address any concerns.
• Identify drainage issues including blockages, defects, infiltration, and root ingress.
• Operate high-pressure water jetting equipment to clean drains, sewers and pipework.
• Remove waste materials and prevent build-up in wastewater systems.
• Perform routine equipment checks and maintenance to ensure readiness.
• Support CCTV inspections to assess underground pipes and sewers.
• Assist in emergency response for flooding and urgent drainage issues.
• Learn to complete RAMS under supervision.
