Job summary

Lanes Group in Sheffield is seeking a Drainage Assistant to join our Sheffield Depot team. You will work alongside experienced engineers to survey drainage systems, assess conditions, identify defects, and support maintenance and repair strategies.

This is a permanent full-time role, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. The position offers salary up to £13 per hour depending on experience, enhanced overtime rates and 21 days holiday plus bank holidays.

Qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 penalty points).
  • Strong interest in drainage, utilities, or civil engineering.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all conditions.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer skills and a desire to learn new software.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with customers about scheduled works and address concerns.
  • Identify drainage issues such as blockages, defects, infiltration, or root ingress.
  • Operate high-pressure water jetting equipment to clean drains and pipework.
  • Remove waste materials and prevent wastewater build-up.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and maintenance.
  • Support CCTV inspections to assess underground pipes and sewers.
  • Assist in emergency response for flooding and urgent drainage issues.
  • Learn to complete RAMS, RAMS etc under supervision.

Drainage/Depot Network consists of a strategically located depot network across the UK, spanning from Aberdeen to Plymouth. Enabling rapid response to customer requirements and providing round-the-clock coverage, 365 days a year.

Purpose of the Role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Drainage Assistant to join our team working out of our Sheffield Depot. You'll be working alongside experienced engineers to carry out surveys of drainage systems, learning how to assess conditions, identify defects, and support maintenance and repair strategies. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in emergency response situations, including flooding and urgent drainage issues.
  • Learn to complete job sheets, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS) under supervision.
