Job summary

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Domestic Supervisor to lead a team of Domestic Assistants across Freeman Hospital and external clinics. You will supervise cleaning standards, conduct audits, and manage appraisals while ensuring safe practices and high hygiene levels.

The role requires Monday to Friday 14:00-22:00, 37.5 hours per week, and working on bank holidays. Previous NHS domestic services experience is preferred and training will be provided; no agency

Qualifications

• Supervisory and leadership experience in domestic services.
• Experience with cleaning machinery and materials.
• Experience in NHS or similar environment preferred.
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Supervise cleaning methods and frequencies in a designated area, ensuring standards.
• Supervise domestic assistants to ensure duties are performed safely and per procedures.
• Train domestics to use machinery and cleaning methods.
• Ensure timely completion of appraisals for domestic staff.
• Ensure all mandatory training is completed on time.

Domestic Supervisor

The role will involve the daily supervision of a large group of staff. It will involve attending wards and departments to complete audits to ensure that cleanliness levels are maintained. You will conduct appraisals, return to work interviews and training of new staff etc.

Hotel services is a fast paced department. You will need to be a self motivated individual who thrives in both working alone and also within a team.

You must lead by example at all times. We have extremely high standards in our Trust and we rely on our supervisors to help ensure this is maintained.

You will be required to work bank holidays.

Monday to Friday 14.00-22.00 fixed

Main duties of the job

This role involves the supervision of a team of Domestic Assistants to ensure cleaning to a high standard in all areas within the Freeman Hospital and external clinics. Previous experience as a Domestic Assistant in the NHS or similar environment would be preferred although full training will be given.

Job responsibilities

• To be responsible for the supervision of cleaning methods and frequencies in a designated area of the hospital, ensuring that the required standards are achieved.
• To supervise the domestic assistants, to ensure that their duties are carried out safely and using correct procedures and materials at frequencies laid down in the specification of work.
• Also the training of domestics to use machinery and the correct methods of cleaning.
• To ensure timely completion of PLB/appraisals for domestic staff.
• To ensure all mandatory training is completed on time.

Person Specification

Knowledge

• Knowledge of technical aspects of the job, e.g. machinery, cleaning materials, products and processes

Experience

• Experience of working in domestic services environment
• Previous experience in the Cleaning Industry
• Previous Supervisory experience

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification such as BICS (or working towards)
