Job summary

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Domestic Assistant to provide a high-quality cleaning service across clinical and non-clinical areas, helping maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

You will work either alone or as part of a team on designated shifts, with emphasis on infection control, use of cleaning equipment, waste disposal and accurate record-keeping to support hospital operations.

Qualifications

• Literate - basic education.
• Understanding of infection control in relation to cleanliness.
• Understanding of Health and Safety.
• Knowledge of COSHH.

Responsibilities

• Provide high standard cleaning in clinical and non-clinical areas.
• Operate cleaning equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions.
• Dispose of waste per Trust Waste Policy.
• Accurately complete documentation to support service processes, e.g. terminal cleans.

Main duties of the job

• To provide a high standard of cleaning within clinical and non-clinical areas reducing the risk of infections by following agreed work schedules, methods and procedures in accordance with the National Standards of Cleanliness.
• Operating cleaning equipment, machinery in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
• Disposal of waste in accordance with the Trust Waste Policy.
• Accurate completion of all required documentation to support specific service processes, eg Terminal cleans.

Job responsibilities

• To perform cleaning and other associated task in any ward, department, operating theatre, laboratory, corridor, catering area, office or residential accommodation as may be required and shall include all or any of the under mentioned tasks, which may include working as a team member
• To ensure the highest possible standard of cleanliness is achieved and complying with the National Standards of Cleanliness, and the local Infection Control Policy within given areas to minimise the risk of cross infection for staff, patients and members of the public within Trust premises
• Undertake deep clean/isolation cleans following national and local guidelines

Person Specification

KNOWLEDGE
